How we Work
Through our outreach activities and referral from partner organizations, Atfaluna’s Senior Operations Manager identifies children who need surgery that their families cannot afford to cover the cost of. These children come from different nationalities and places across the country including cities, villages, and camps. Atfaluna also supports the diagnostic process through its network of medical professionals and diagnostic facilities, in cases where the diagnosis process has not been completed. The process we follow includes the following stages: socio-economic assessment, medical evaluation, fundraising and finally intensive support throughout the steps of the treatment journey.
Socio-economic assessment:
A child's story begins with our Senior Operations Officer, who conducts an initial detailed socio-economic assessment to confirm true need.
Medical evaluation:
After financial need is confirmed, the Medical Committee evaluates each child’s case using our medical selection criteria. The initial screening criteria are children under 18, fulfilment of socio-economic pre-screening criteria, non-malignant and non-chronic condition, and the absence of coverage by any type of insurance or other NGOs unless the required treatment is unavailable in Jordan, or the condition is urgent. The weighted selection criteria include threat to life, urgency of treatment, impact on child’s quality of life, and risk of complications. If the minimum required score is achieved, the child is referred for evaluation and treatment by one of our volunteer medical specialists. The specialists we work with are among the best in Jordan, as we strongly believe our children should receive the same level of care accessible to more fortunate children. We are proud to announce that we now have a cumulative network of 90 amazing medical professionals who support us in fulfilling our mission.
Fundraising:
Once the evaluating physician draws his/her treatment plan, it is our fundraising committee's turn to raise the funds needed to make that plan a reality. Our fundraising strategies include fundraising for individual cases and medical campaigns, and sources include good-willed individuals as well as corporate donors. Atfaluna also always strives to expand our network of medical service providers who grant Atfaluna special discounts. Currently, Atfaluna cooperates with 76 of the best medical service providers in Jordan.
Treatment journey:
Atfaluna’s support for every child continues throughout his/her treatment journey and only ends after his/her care and follow up have been completed and the child's life is as free as can be of pain and disability.
